October 20, 2008 – Celebrating Friendship

Last night a group of friends and I went to Don Pablos for dinner. Don Pablos is one of my favorite restaurants. It’s on the Ohio River. We arrived at 5:30 p.m. with the hint of evening’s sunset in the offing and the crisp air of fall rustling the turning leaves.

I have two groups of friends that I meet with monthly for dinners out. This group is my giggle group. We get to talking and sharing stories and suddenly we are erupting in laughter over some sudden silly thing that captures our giggle bones. Last night was no exception.

It feels so good to laugh.

This was my first outing to a restaurant. I went armed with Crystal Light and blue bottle of Carnation Instant Breakfast (CIB). I was intrigued by a soup on the menu, as I’m only allowed cream soups or broth right now. I asked the waitress if I could have a small cup of the broth. When she brought the little bowl, it was perfect. The flavor, sensational. Of course, I only ate about a quarter of it before I was full, but wow were my taste buds happy. We stayed at the restaurant for five hours! It took me that long just to eat the soup and drink the CIB. The soup got cold, the CIB got warm. Yummy.

I feel like I’m losing weight, but I won’t really know how much until I go to the doctor next Monday. I can already tell I’m feeling anxious about the weight just falling off. I have to keep reminding myself it will take time. One day at a time. By this time next year, I want to be so much more healthy. By this time next year I should have a working knee. That will make exercising so much easier.

Our group talked about starting a Biggest Loser kind of game to encourage each other in the process. I think that sounds fun. Now we just have to figure out how to organize it. Hmmm. Maybe I can find something online about that.

It was a good day and very fun evening.
